Castlemartyr Village Fete in association with the Route 25 Classic Car Club

On SUNDAY 8th June 2008 a very successful fete and classic car show was held in Castlemartyr . . . . . . many thanks to all those who helped to make the event such a success. There was a similar event held in 2006 and the organisers hope that following the success of the 2008 event, that it will become and anual event.

The day started early with the set up of the stage and stalls and the arrival of a number of local traders. At about midday, some classic cars began to arrive and shortly afterwards, the cars left for a short run around the beautiful grounds of the local Castlemartyr Golf resort and Capella Hotel. Once back at the field (known locally as 'The Piggy or Pig Market'), the cars gathered and were displayed at one side of the field.

A about 2pm, Mr Peter Bowling, Manager of the Capella Hotel arrived in a horse drawn carriage and formally opened the event

By this time, there was quite a large croud in the field who were entertained with music from local entertainer Finbarr Murphy and Ted Kramer.

The crowd were then entertained by the rock Band 'Bloodshed Tornado', who are made up of 3 pupils from castlemartyr National School (Aaron McCarthy, Dylan Murphy & James Stevens) and one from The Christian Brothers School in Midleton (Mark Ryan).

The final musical contribution came from Mike Baker who performed a number of acoustic songs and who was also accompanied for several songs by Graham Stevens, James Stevens & Roger Ryan.

By the end of the day, all those present had spent a very enjoyable day.
